Albuquerque is pretty much divided in half, one half is the east side. Which is home to the Sandia mountains (which holds the worlds longest tram ride!) and pretty much downtown Albuquerque. Then you have the west side, which is where I live. The west is the newer, continuously growing part of Albuquerque.
So, although my side of town hardly ever gets any snow, I love waking up in the morning and looking over at the Sandia's which have been frosted with white icing! Then you get the sun peeking up over the mountain and you have the most beautiful winter wonderland you've ever seen!
And although this weeks TWD could mimic my Sandia's with a good coat of icing, I chose to leave my Grandma's All-Occasion Sugar Cookies icing free. I did however decide to adjust the flavor a little bit by adding some orange zest and some allspice to the mix. And boy-oh-boy did I hit the Christmas nail on the head! The cookies were fruity, yet had the warm coziness that everyone loves during the holidays from the allspice. Ooh, those litte additions of yours sound really wonderful. And, although I didn't blog it, Mark preferred his without icing at all also, while Matt piled the icing as high as he could get it...kids! LOL. Loved the little bits about your city...such fun to tune in to blogs and learn new things...thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I marked yours for next week!
These were just so fabulous.
I iced mine, but added the orange.
Oh, those thick cookies look good. And I'm all about the orange and allspice. Oh, yesssss.
Your flavor additions sound wonderful!
I actually formed half my dough into a log for slicing and baking, and the other into a disk for rolling. The sliced ones weren't photographed, but they were delicious nonetheless. Orange and allspice sounds amazing -- I'll have to try it! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
What a great idea to add a little Allspice! I will have to try that with the next batch! You have a very fun blog!
The allspice sounds like a hit! Such a Christmas-y spice! I hope you enjoy your winter!

love it! your cookies look so inviting and taste delicious (okay, so i have to *imagine* how they taste, but your additions make them sound soooo good!).
Good for you. I am glad they turned out for you. So many creative ideas from the TWDers. Yours look good.
I was nervous about adding any type of zest to the cookies, but it's good to hear that you enjoyed them. I think I will try that next time around.
Your flavours sound tasty.
Thanks for joining TWD and baking with me
